The Brooklyn Nets were founded in 1967 out of Newark , New Jersey and were members of the American Basketball Association. The Nets did not become members of the NBA however until 1976. From the start the Nets were looked upon as an instant rival to the much favored Knicks and subsequently the team found it difficult allocating a venue. The long, hard search for a place to practice and play forced the originally New York-intended team to settle in New Jersey .

From the beginning of the teams' history issues with a venue forced several name changes. Originally they were supposed to be the New York Americans. Then when New York didn't work out they were the New Jersey Americans. Then when their venue, the Armory, in Teaneck , NJ was constantly booked the team moved to the Long Island Arena in Commack , NY and changed their name yet again to the New York Nets. Their venue on Long Island was rumored to be in shambles bit still they stayed and shortened their name to simply the Nets; in honor of two other pro New York teams, the Mets and the Jets.

The Brooklyn Nets play at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the 2012-2013. The Brooklyn Nets have never won an NBA Championship, but they have won five Division Titles and two Conference Titles, all in the last decade. Don't miss your chance to catch the Brooklyn Nets live at the Prudential Center for a home game or at an NBA game elsewhere.
